It’d been a shoddy day all Sunday. Despite the good weather a couple of days ago, it was rainy, windy and cold today. That’s Melbourne for you. I’ve been meaning to try Darac Grill and Bar after hearing about their mean Army Stew Hotpot and my friend who was overseas for a holiday in a couple of days loves his Army stew. Located just around the corner from RMIT university, this little Korean treasure house provides a good mix of delicious food.

Check out this cute little bar/counter. This is where my friend and I were waiting to be seated.

You wouldn’t expect it, but the place is a a lot bigger than it looks. The restaurant looked like a Typo shop selling Korean food on the inside with its animal cardboard wall mounts and cute little hanging picture mobiles and vintage cars.

What surprised me the most about this place is that they do not give you any side dishes. Having said that, with all the food that we ordered, I don’t think I’d be able to stomach any more. The only way to solve this dilemma is to come back again.

Spicy Pork Shabu Shabu Army Stew (medium): The stew was delicious. The cheese helped toned down the spiciness of the broth and made it more palatable, otherwise I may have had my tastebuds paralyzed from the spice. I’ve never had hot pot where there was ham, beans and macaroni in it before so the combination of flavours was interesting in a good way. We cleaned up the stew quite nicely and I hardly even touched my rice.

Our accompanying dish was the Cheese Fire Chicken, again an interesting mix of marinaded spicy chicken with melted cheese and alfafa sprouts on top. The chicken was heavily marinaded so having it with a bit of rice was a must. The portion was small-medium so just right for my liking but smaller than other places (according to my friend).

Spicy Pork Shabu Shabu Army Stew again after a good simmering in the pot. Mhmm, I can still remember the smells coming from this and its making me hungry. I’ll probably want to try the hot pot again but with extra ramen next time. I think that would be the perfect icing on the ‘cake’.
Darac Grill and Bar, you and I need to have a second date.
