Baba Sus had been trending all over the Instragram foodie world with their signature Hong Kong style egg waffles and it’s not difficult to see why. The new it cafe to brunch at serves up an variety of Asian inspired all day breakfast and lunch items on the menu. The cafe appears bright and cosy as a lot of natural light filters through large glass windows facing the road. As you look up, you will notice hanging light bulb pendants from the ceiling that accentuates the wooden shelves lined with bags of coffee beans and cocoa powder.

w/vanilla custard, green tea ice cream, berry compote and pistachio praline

These Hong Kong style egg waffles have very quickly moved up as one of my favourite waffles in Melbourne to date. They are unique in shape compared to your square or round versions and are much less crisp than they are soft and spongy. The thin crisp edges are delightful to nibble on while you are still admiring what a lovely waffle-piece it is. A lovely mix of bitter sweet and sour flavours are melded together in this lovely breakfast of a dessert.

Tempura king prawn, enoki mushrooms, pumpkin, tea egg, nori, daikon served with soy dipping sauce

The soba noodles are another winner here at Baba Sus. A combination of tempura prawns and vegetables is served on cold soba noodles with some fresh daikon and spring onions like a cold noodle salad. The soy dipping (or pouring) sauce is light which makes for a great dressing. Alternatively you can combine the soy dipping sauce with the runny tea egg yolk to thicken to thick its consistency.

From the moment I walked in and sat down, I knew that Baba Sus would hands down become the latest addition to one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. I love the twist they have placed on your traditional cafe offerings with their own version of an Asian inspired brunch menu.  If the cute coffee and matcha latte designs do not you sway you then the Hong Kong egg waffles will be sure to leave a good impression.
