I was pretty much sold on coming here after reading Thuy Mai’s blog post about Jake and The Beans Talk and watching her short but informative video about the cafe. The video features short casual conversation with none other than Jake, the owner of the business about the cafe. For a lack of local trendy cafes in the South Eastern suburbs, it’s good to have new places like Jake and The Beans Talk open up.

It’s a lot closer to home which makes it much easier to travel to.

Jake and the Beans Talk, opened up earlier this year. The cafe is situated along quiet strip of shops on Waverly Rd, near East Malvern Station.

It’s quite spacious inside the cafe. Despite it being very cloudy on the day that we went, the cafe was very well lit with natural lighting. From the picture you can even see a pretty cool looking communal table if you happen to come in with a large group.

Porcini stock, mushrooms & parmesan cheese

The risotto was cooked to perfection. It was served warm, tasted delicious and was very comforting. Adding the spinach made the dish taste even better because it balanced out the richness from the risotto.

2016-08-30-jake-and-the-beans-talk-4Crumbed chicken with slaw, potato rosti, chilli lime aioli and chilli tomato relish 18.9

The crumbed chicken dish on the hand had too many fried components to it and did not feel balanced as a dish overall. It needed more fresh elements to it or more salad. While the chilli tomato relish was nice, the slaw lacked any zesty kick to it.

The place has a great open and relaxed atmosphere to it. Staff are friendly and food is served quickly. It’s a good place for some quality catch ups with friends.
