White Mojo is a sizeable cafe located in the leafy East suburbs of Melbourne. The cafe is quite beautiful and reminds me of Top Paddock in essence but without all the greenery and flowery displays. White Mojo initially opened it’s first store in the city on Hardware Lane before opening another store Balwyn due to its popularity.
I am always keen to check out new cafes without having to travel to the city, if I don’t have to.
Inside the cafe, the interior is colourful and bright. Behind the counter you can see a glass painting of what looks like a French Bulldog. The large glass panels that make up nearly half of the cafe walls allows for a lot of natural light to flow in.
What we ordered…
Hot chocolate $4.50
White Mojo Croissant burger $24.00
Croissant buger, soft shell crab, pickled cucumber, chipotle mayonnaise, smoked eel, fried egg and chorizo dust.
Overall, the food at White Mojo was okay. The croissant soft shell crab burger is particular nice as it combines an interesting mix of flavours and textures. From the soft buttery croissant to the crispy soft shell crab and oils from the fried egg and mayonnaise, I can’t say that this burger will do any good for your cholesterol levels.
Zuchinni fritters $20.00
Zuchinni pancake, pumpkin puree, green kale, seasonal greens, fried haloumi and a poached egg
The zuchinni pancake in comparison to the croissant soft shell crab burger can be seen as quite plain. Flavours were a lot milder, softer and a little bit boring. Everything was creamy, mild, soft and smooth.
Belgian waffles with seasonal fruits, lemon curd, meringue and freeze dried berries
Alternatively the waffles were dry, sugary and hard. For $18.50 and only one and a half waffles on the plate (they couldn’t even give us two?), there were too many bits and pieces on the dish. The freeze dried berries and seasonal fruit were nice.
Adding bits of edible flowers and a kaleidoscope of other elements becomes overwhelming to the taste buds. It’s pretty to look at, but you wouldn’t realistically want to have it for breakfast, maybe as a dessert.
Apart from the food and atmosphere, service is good. Staff are friendly and overall quite patient. It’s definitely worthwhile to come here and try the croissant soft shell crab burger but I wouldn’t be ordering the other two dishes again.
