The other day, my friend and I stopped by Gontran Cherrier in the middle of my PokemonGo adventures for a sweet snack. We were obviously only in the area to catch some Pokemon (and brunch) so we didn’t order any dishes from the cafe. However, having heard such wonderful things of this French cafe, we decided to try a few of the different pastries and sweets they had on offer instead.

The kouign amman ($6.00, bottom left) , a sweet sugary & buttery scroll like pastry was really nice.  The matcha and white chocolate scone ($5-5.50) was pretty ordinary and very much like I make at home so I wasn’t too impressed to be eating something I could just bake myself. We also tried the pear tart ($8.50, bottom right) which was also okay. The best part of the pear tart was the poached pear while the rest of it really do much for me.

Overall the selection of desserts and sweets they have on offer is nice, and the fit out of the cafe is also quite nice as well. Based on this, I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to drive or commute here (considering I live in Springvale) just for the pastries. If I was in the area? Maybe, for the kouign amman.
